PIC

Independent infotainment, designed around the car.

PIC is an independent infotainment environment for Android head units installed in Porsche 987 and 997 vehicles. Its purpose is not to turn the dashboard into a generic tablet. PIC provides a coherent vehicle-oriented interface while retaining access to the Android ecosystem underneath.

DESIGN PRINCIPLE

OEM first. Android second.

PIC is built around the visual hierarchy and operating context of the cabin. Primary functions remain immediately accessible, while Android applications and head-unit-specific services are routed through a consistent interface.

TWO INTERFACES

Classic and Modern UI

PIC provides two interface approaches. Classic UI offers the established PIC layout. Modern UI introduces a two-page Home and a persistent right sidebar, allowing frequently used information and controls to remain visible while navigating the interface.

INTEGRATION

One interface. Different head units.

Android head units expose different applications, services and vendor-specific capabilities. PIC separates the user-facing function from the application or provider behind it. Capability discovery identifies what the head unit exposes; provider selection and application mapping determine how supported functions are opened or integrated.

For Tuner, Media, Phone, Navigation, Sound, Phone Link, Settings and Android, a long press opens the application picker so an installed application can be manually associated with that function.

VEHICLE DATA

GPS is the baseline. OBD is an enhancement.

Core trip and speed functions use GPS as the universal baseline. PIC does not require an OBD adapter for basic trip operation. Bluetooth OBD can add vehicle data and diagnostic capabilities where the adapter, vehicle and head unit support them.

PUBLIC BETA

Built to be validated on real hardware.

Android automotive head units vary substantially by platform and firmware. MONZA therefore includes capability discovery, Developer Mode and Diagnostic Export so behavior can be validated without assuming that every vendor implements Android services in the same way.
